What is Lean?
'Lean' principles were developed from the Toyota System which focused successfully on the elimination of waste.

These foundations were seized upon by other Japanese companies such as Sony and Honda, in the late 70's and early 80's and were instrumental in them gaining major shares of international markets.
Since then 'lean' has been adopted and adapted by many European companies to drive improved competitiveness through increased efficiency.
Lean manufacturing is an approach for providing products that a customer requires on-time, of the right quality, at the right price, in the right amount, whilst achieving profitability and continually reducing costs.
Lean manufacturing is NOT
- a management fad

- rocket science
- a cost cutting exercise
- about making everyone work faster
- a magic wand
- just for manufacturing
- A way of thinking
- A philosophy
- A mind set
- An approach
Although manufacturing and production operations have led the way in lean implementation, the principles of operating efficiently apply equally to office and administration environments.
